there is a security risk here, a very big one. At least knowing who is posting what is a heads up to watch those people closely for the security risks they are. It is not a big leap from talking to acting...how much damage can they do, do they give away intelligence? They have to know these forums are monitored so what do they say and do on other sites and in secret?

I'm new here, and this piece is from March. I dont know if anyone looks at questions later or not. I'm curious as to why the people that use extremist language in the IC chat rooms, or even private DM's on the platform are permitted to remain in their jobs' ar all? What good does it do to prevent extremist language, when a person still obviously would hold those views, whether or not they are permitted to share them? The 1st amendment is obviously important, but how often do ppl that are not extremists use extremist language? I'm guessing they dont, but could totally be wrong. I'm very concerned about the number of active military, and more than that even, local law enforcement, that have been effected by disinformation, and political bias. A better quality of media as an institution would be very helpful, but since some are responsible for distributing the disinformation, that's not an option for us. I learned about disinformation campaigns approx 2 years into the former administration, fairly extensively. Assuming IC and former members of IC have extensive training in this area, what is the fix? Such campaigns are used because they work, and it's been bizarre to learn about it, while seeing certain parts used in real time. But in my own experience it's not possible to talk to these ppl. They dont know who can be trusted within govt, and have heard some of the same lines and phrases so many times they seem unwilling to even watch/read anything that goes against what they believe. I think it was Rep. Raskin (could be wrong though), that said his brother in law was so convinced that the 2020 election had been stolen, that even after watching the J6 hearings, or when he was shown things like the court documents from some of the 60+ court cases filed in bad faith, but that show they had no proof, said to him "I just know in my heart it was stolen". What is the fix to bring a person back to reality? No offense, but it's understandable (to me) how ppl dont know who can, or can not be trusted in govt. I share that to a degree. But at the end of the day we must decide that things like govt reports are the end of the road, that we dont have to believe them, but as avg ppl we lack the means to look into things any further than that, and that "knowing in our hearts" is not proof of anything. Democracy doesnt survive when the citizenry cant agree on basic things such as this. I've asked the people I know that if they dont trust anyone in govt., how they came to think they could trust the former president, or the right wing media, but no replies. Thanks for the piece. It's great.
