This is a really good article. Super informative. On the one hand, I thought the technology was actually better than it is and on the other, as a soldier once, I cannot imagine a more scary thing than fighting in tunnels, including Vietnam and now in Gaza. I never had to do that and never wanted to, that takes a special breed.

I knew "tunnel rats" in Vietnam with the First InfantryvD

Division and they told us about "recon by fire." If you are in a deep dark place and do not know what is in front; just shoot. That ought to make something happen.

I am skeptical about this drone technology.

Try telling that to the Russians.

I spent four years working for a degree in engineering physics and never mastered the mathematics to go on further. But I do know enough physics to have made me skeptical of Reagan's laser defense and now of new ways to detect tunnels from drones. I will believe it when I see it work. (I also doubted the DMZ sensor network in Vietnam that was to close the DMZ.) I know drones work.

Excellent article and very timely. For three weeks the Israeli government talked of "destroying Hamas," without explaining how this might be accomplished. I for one think that no matter how needed such outcome may be, it is much easier said than done. Today we learn from an advisor close to the leadership that the objective is now "payback." Obviously, much easier to achieve, but at what cost to the hostages and the civilian population of Gaza? I fear that the price will be enormous with the priority placed on destroying the tunnels and the people above and below ground and not so much consideration given to the fate of the hostages.
