Thank you for this new (to me) view of how FDR gathered intelligence prior to the “official” start of WWII, and of Francis Perkins’ role in it.

That she had such massive credibility for a woman of that time is enormously impressive. Kudos to FDR.

Wow, what a great story, and what impressive women.

It also reminds me of how little reporting there has been on Lease-Lend. I only remember being told some astonishing tales by a couple of survivors of the Murmansk convoys, including that more Hawker Hurricanes flew in Soviet colours than ever fought for the RAF in the Battle of Britain. Putin is doubling down on the lie that the Rad Army alone was responsible for the defeat of Hitler. Perhaps we should be talking more about the how the Allies propped up Stalin at a time when the Soviet Union was about to fall apart.
