Well thought out piece. What the author doesn't state plainly is that the US was happy with a divide and conquer scenario. Peace between former enemies means less influence and less arms sales. It also greatly undermines US leverage. Saudi Arabia and all other countries that depend solely or primarily on US weapons soon finds itself having to follow US dictates. Do what we want or face a cut off.
